Some random photos of life here in Talkeetna, Alaska.
Labor Day 2008, at Fish Lake near Talkeetna. Julia & Tony did a little painting.

Sienna enjoyed watching the little fishes! We couldn't convince her to go swimming.
Julia went for a walk in the neighborhood on Sept 3, 2008 and found some great color. This is Highbush Cranberry. Some leaves were as scarlet red as these berries!
A typcial house in the neighborhood. Some fall colors creeping in.
Julia ponders the banner she's working on for the Balloon Museum in Albuquerque. She was one of 25 silk painters invited to show a 4'x6' banner. The process is very long, starting with drawing out ideas and making small samples like the one on the Events page.
Julia took over Tony's studio to stretch the silk banner. She draws with a resist then paints with French dye.
The painted banner, dry and ready to be steamed. Most large projects like this must be done with a first draft and a final draft because of the infinite variables in the process. Once, she dropped a paintbrush loaded with black dye right onto a nearly-finished painting. Disaster! But, she was able to salvage it; it was the sample piece that got her juried into the show!
