Tony painting in Peters Hills, AKTony was born in 1954 in Philadelphia, PA. In 1972 he attended Millersville University, near Lancaster, PA, where he majored in Fine Arts.  From 1975 to 1980 he attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he enrolled in a variety of painting studios and became certified as an Illustrator.  He worked as a Graphic Artist and a Freelance Illustrator, but his first love was painting the landscapes he found in and around Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Between 1980 and 1991 he was active in the Philadelphia area art scene, exhibiting in numerous juried art shows and winning several awards. He was an active member on the Board of the Philadelphia Sketch club, one of the oldest art organizations in the U.S.

In 1991 he came to Alaska to take a job as a maintenance worker in Denali National Park.  Here he found new raw material for his subject matter, and began painting intimate scenes of the local landscape.  He had his first show in Alaska in 1993 at the McKinley Village Lodge, and in 1994 he served as the first Artist-in-Residence for the Denali Foundation (now called Denali Education Center).

Since then he has been exhibiting in Denali Park, Fairbanks, Homer and Anchorage, Coos Bay, Oregon and was invited to exhibit in the Netherlands as part of an Alaska/Holland Cultural Exchange that took place in May of 2004.

He currently resides in Talkeetna, Alaska with his wife Julia and their two whacky dogs, Pi and Sienna.  They enjoy family outings where they have the chance to capture scenes with camera or with paint.  Many of Tony's landscapes and studies are created en plein air.
